Every new year brings surprises. For MaxFit, that means welcoming the newest addition to our team. If you’re a soccer fan, you may know Melissa Tancredi from cheering for our national women team during many games. Since 2004 when she joined the national team as a professional soccer player and until recently when she decided to hang off her hat in favour of new adventures, Melissa was immersed in the world of soccer.
What first attracted Melissa to the sport was the fact that she loves being part of a team. Which is why being a part of the MaxFit team seems to be the right direction. ‘I like the philosophy MaxFit is based on, and their view on integration,’ she says. Indeed, that is something MaxFit is proud of and has been incorporating into treatment plans and strategies for years. Melissa foresees lots of learning ahead. ‘I am happy to be working alongside Dr. Kelsick whose long-time expertise and background I admire very much.’
Melissa joins the team as a chiropractor (she graduated in 2014) and you will be able to find her in the clinic two days a week. Part of her work will include the aquaciser, as she will be helping clients during their rehabilitation process.
Why chiropractic care you may ask. One of the reasons is that by being a professional athlete she encountered the discipline often enough to realize that she likes it. ‘I like the hands-on approach, and the approach to wellness through it,’ Melissa says. ‘It fits my lifestyle,’ she adds, and that mostly explains the focus on chiropractic care, compared to a medical career which Melissa considered in the beginning.
Originally from Ontario, Melissa relocated to Vancouver, one of her most favourite destination. ‘I love Vancouver, national team training camps were based here.’ In other words, she had a good chance to develop a love for it, not that it was a difficult task.
Though retired from professional soccer, Melissa’s sports adventures are not done. ‘I love volleyball, that will be my next sport, and also winter sports, snowboarding in particular.’ With beaches and mountains, one could say Vancouver is the place to be for Melissa.
Welcome, Melissa Tancredi!
