We have a new team member and we could not be more excited to introduce her to you! Candace Messina, our new physiotherapist and clinical Pilates instructor, has recently joined the MaxFit team and she is excited to meet everyone!
Come and meet her in person but meanwhile here’s a little bit that Candace candidly shared with us.
Did you grow up (like most of us,) not having any idea what you want to be when you grow up? Or saying that when you will be all grownup you will leave your hometown to travel and live somewhere else? Candace knew she wanted to do something that had to do with the human body and she knew she will want to stay in her native Vancouver.
‘I’ve always been really active and involved in sports and as I got to learn more about human biology, I realized that I was interested in the medical and health and sports profession,’ she said. What do you get when you combine a love of sports with knowledge of the human body? You guessed it: physiotherapy and kinesiology, which is what Candace studied and and has been loving since she started!
She did some of her studying in Australia, but that did change her desire to return to her hometown. ‘I love all the beauty and nature of Vancouver, and I love all the outdoors activities one can do here. Plus, I love being close to my family,’ she adds.
Candace volunteered full-time in a clinic during her kinesiology degree, and that gave her the opportunity to have a feel for what it is like to be involved in this line of work. Knowing what you’re getting yourself into is like winning half the battle.
If you think she is busy you’d be right, but here is the rest of the busy story: Candace is a mom of two little ones (a toddler and a 9-month-old!) so we will let you do the guessing about how she juggles it all. All we can say is that she does it well and would not have it any other way!
If you ask Candace why she likes MaxFit, the first thing she mentions is the interdisciplinary team approach: ‘I like doing both physiotherapy and clinical Pilates, and I love that MaxFit patients can benefit from being attended to via various disciplines,’ she explains. Yes, it’s the holistic approach that we all love around here!
So what’s next for Candace as she gets settled into MaxFit? She wants to get going on a well-rounded prenatal and postnatal program. Also, getting to know more patients, including expecting and new mothers but not limited to that.
Welcome to the team, Candace, and here’s to a great journey ahead!
