Sandra Cadavid, RMT
We have a new team member, Sandra Cadavid! She comes with a passion for movement and helping clients through rehabilitation. MaxFit is happy to have her aboard!
Sandra has been in private practice since 1995. She worked her first couple of years in therapy clinics around the lower mainland (Burnaby Neuromuscular Clinic in Metrotown, and North Burnaby Massage Therapy Clinic in North Burnaby.) She realized that what she really wanted to do was to own and operate her own wellness centre so that she could run multidisciplinary clinics. Her last centre was a spiritual wellness centre, a first of its kind. Sandra has owned and operated wellness centres in three separate locations for 21 years up until last year when she decided to take her practice to working from home.
In the past 23 years she has focused on all forms of therapy, from palliative/elderly to pregnancy to elite athletes. Her main focus is in assisting the community to achieve freedom of pain and a broader understanding of a movement-filled life. As we all head into retirement years, mobility becomes important for retaining quality of life. Sandra has made it her life mission to instruct those who come to see her for therapy the importance of mobility and strength, and balance in the mind/body/spirit. A symbiotic relationship among the latter three is the key.
With her clients, Sandra has focused on nutrition, stretching and strengthening the body, and meditation.
Her techniques address the following:
- Neuromuscular therapy (trigger point therapy levels 1 to 7)
- TMJ pain and dysfunction
- SI joint paint and dysfunction
- Carpal tunnel syndrome
- Myofascial release (visceral, lumbopelvic, cervical/thoracic)
- Craniosacral therapy (levels 1 to 4)
Sandra has always been a passionate athlete, mostly recreational. She started with gymnastics, soccer, floor hockey as a child, continued with cross-country during teenage years and also developed a passion for running. In her mid 20’s she competed in 5 and 10K runs and mid-level triathlons, became a yoga teacher and personal trainer.
Some of the sports she has tackled over the years include: skiing, snowboarding, tennis, racket ball, badminton, mountain biking, road cycling, hiking, rock climbing, rollerblading, swimming, kayaking, and golfing. She also has a brown belt in Taekwondo.
In her youth, Sandra danced Spanish Flamenco for three years and performed with a Colombian Dance Group. She has also tried other types of dancing such as hip hop, belly dancing and Zumba. Yes, it’s all about being active!
A car accident at the age of 18 left her with chronic SI joint dysfunction, torso, dhoulder and neck spasms. More injuries added along the way (torn ACL and MCL). Fast forward to motherhood, which accentuated her pain and inability to keep her activity levels high enough, Sandra tried various forms of therapy with little success. She accepted living with pain until she tried Pilates. That opened up the path to a better quality of life without pain. Sandra is in the process of acquiring her STOTT Pilates Instructor Certification later this fall.
Sandra loves being active on many levels once again: walking, golfing, motorcycle riding, kayaking and hiking with her dog, Chiquita.
Welcome to the MaxFit team, Sandra!
