Our Unique Process

Integrated health care for life and motion

Human beings must be viewed as complex systems interacting with their environment and a number of ways of approaching this were developed over time. The current understanding of this concept is called Integrative Medicine:

“Integrative medicine is a comprehensive, primary care system that emphasizes wellness and healing of the whole person (biopsycho-socio-spiritual dimensions) as major goals, above and beyond suppression of a specific somatic disease.”

All illness and injury have a causation process that has resulted in the body presenting symptoms. Symptoms such as pain and discomfort are expressions of imbalance. While suppressing symptoms such as acute pain is useful and necessary (think pain from a broken leg), integrative medicine does more than alleviating symptoms.

MaxFit’s consulting western physicians believe in integrating all aspects of the very complex human system — physical, emotional and spiritual — in order to achieve balance and sustained health.

The Maxfit Movement Philosophy

Life starts with movement. From cells to entire organisms, movement makes life possible and maintains an optimal state of health. One of the most amazing accomplishments of a human being, movement, will be affected during your lifetime by a number of factors. Even small things, over time, have a significant impact. Accidents, sports injuries, incorrect positions during work or while performing sports can impair your mobility.

When movement is impaired, health declines.

Staying true to our philosophy, the MaxFit Movement team integrates knowledge and skills to provide you with the best of care that will help you heal, improve your state of health, correct movement and enhance your athletic performance.

To celebrate movement with the community and to stay true to the MaxFit vision, the team invites you to join us for exploring the great outdoors. Hiking, snowshoeing, kayaking, canoeing, we provide you with opportunities to expand your movement horizons. Rain or shine, summer or winter, that is. Because we’re passionate about helping you keep moving.

Human Development

Commitment to our clients

MaxFit Movement Institute was born in 1998. Like every good thing, and especially those that last, the clinic was the result of a vision that MaxFit Movement Institute be more than a sports therapy and wellness clinic. The institute was envisioned to be a community where people get help, improve, connect and learn to lead health-sustainable lifestyles. A community that helps people discover the fun and necessity of movement.

Our core beliefs:

• Working with the client as the centre of the treatment program because healing and health begin with you

• Trust in the human body’s ability to heal itself and thus design the treatment strategy around that powerful feature

• Have a truly client-centered approach that allows us to hear your experience and make shared decisions

The present MaxFit team continues to embrace this vision, supporting our clients in a variety of ways.

Our patients range from all walks of life and all age groups. Whether you’re a seasoned athlete or you’re someone whose idea of a workout is going down the stairs to the garage, we can help get you moving and also motivate you to keep moving.

In order to increase your athletic performance and help you avoid injury, or help you break into new sports, we can conduct a complete biomechanical evaluation and create a plan to help you integrate sustainable movement into your lifestyle. In other words, we will look at how you sit, stand, walk, and run. We will ask about where and how you sleep and after identifying what needs to be corrected, we will design a plan to make it happen.

There are many factors that come into play when deciding if you should be seen by a Physiotherapist, Chiropractor or Registered Massage Therapist, as each can be helpful in their own way. A few questions during an initial visit can help us determine which one of our practitioners would be the most beneficial to you (sometimes there could be more than one). Maxfit Movement Institute is an integrated clinic and after your initial consultation exam and treatment from your provider, if you and him/her feel you will that another form of treatment is needed, we will help design the best treatment plan to get you better and back to enjoying all that you do, pain-free.
You do not need a referral from you family doctor to see a Chiropractor, Registered Massage Therapist or Physiotherapist at MaxFit. However, if you have already seen your family doctor, please bring along a note or referral concerning your health issue. It helps our practitioners find the best way to design a most beneficial treatment plan. A referral may be needed if you have extended medical coverage. It is always best to check your plan to see if they require a referral from you family doctor prior to seeing any of the providers at Maxfit Movement Institute.
There are many extended medical companies and a number of different policies within the company. It will all depend on the policy your employer has. In most cases your policy will cover the visits to a Chiropractor, Physiotherapist and Registered Massage Therapist (and many other professions). You should be aware that your policy will most likely have a cap per year as to how much they will cover and may not cover 100% of your visit. We at Maxfit Movement Institute do not have access to the policy you have so it will be up to you to find out exactly how much of your visit will be covered.
After you pay for your visit an official receipt will be printed. Your insurance company will need this receipt to get you reimbursed for your visit.
You do not necessarily need to have had any kind of medical imaging before your visit at Maxfit Movement Institute. However, if you have had medical imaging on the area needing treatment, it will be extremely helpful to your provider for you to bring the imaging report. If, at your appointment, your provider at Maxfit Movement Institute decides that they would like to see the actual imaging, we will have you sign an authorization form to have a copy of the disc sent to us from where you had the imaging done. Also, if after the initial exam the practitioner decides that imaging is necessary, you will be referred back to you physician to have imaging done.
Children are always welcome at Maxfit Movement Institute. Whether you plan for them to wait in the waiting area while you are seeing a practitioner, or if you decide to take them in with you, please bring along something to keep them occupied. Ideally something quiet such as drawing supplies or books, so that others will not be disturbed by extra noise. Thank you in advance for your consideration.
Please have your medical card, insurance information, medication list, illness diary if you keep one, any medical records pertaining to your complaint, and in general anything that can help us best address your issue.
If you haven’t been seen by any health care professional regarding your concern/injury it can be very difficult to determine/diagnose over the phone. We prefer to schedule an initial appointment in order to make a reliable assessment and find the best treatment plan.
No. The first appointment is a complete consultation where the practitioner will take a history and do a detail examination of your presenting complaint.
For physiotherapy and Chiropractic, we advise that ladies wear a tank top or sports bra and shorts. Men can wear shorts and tank top. We also have limited amounts of shorts and gowns for emergency cases.
What our clients are saying
  • "‘I've been a patient of Dr. Kelsick for the past 10 years, and Dr. Rite for the past 4, and the two are truly amazing at what they do! Although their titles are Chiropractors, they both have such a wide base of knowledge and understanding of the body, that I often feel as if our sessions are a combination of chiropractic, physiotherapy, massage therapy, and occasionally even nutrition. As such, when I see them, I know I am being taken care off. As an athlete, and simply an injury prone individual, they have both truly made a difference in how my body functions. I definitely recommend =).’ "
    Sabrina Nettey
  • "‘Dr. Kelsick and his team are truly amazing. They’ve been putting me back together and keeping me moving for more than 15 years and now take care of my whole extended family, from my 86-year-old mom to my teenage daughters. Dr. Kelsick goes the extra mile to understand exactly what is going on with your body in order to provide the very best solutions. No problem is too complex or challenging. Think Dr. House with a far better bedside manner!’ "
    Peggi Peacock
  • "‘As an athlete my goal is to have a fit and healthy body, and Maxfit Movement Institute helps me maintain this goal. The team of Doctors are truly gifted, and their positive outlook on life is amazing. Thank you for making a difference in my life.’"
    L Murphy
  • "‘The difference with the staff at MaxFit, especially Randy and Wilbour: they take the time to assess and determine the source of your aches or pains. Not only do they treat whatever it is, they explain how to avoid it happening again. I have tried many physio-therapists but none of them come close to MaxFit. Highly recommended. ‘"
